If you are involved in the maritime industry, classification refers to a range of services performed on a vessel, from its design and construction to its "in-service" status, with the objective to make it operate according to a high level of internationally recognized safety standards. As a classification body, we are strongly committed to the development and implementation of maritime technical standards to protect life, property and the environment.
Classification consists of a representation of the level of compliance of a ship, vessel or offshore structure to the rules set up by a classification society. This is established following plan approval and surveys carried out by the society's experts, as provided for in the rules. Ship classification provides a point of reference on ship safety and reliability to shipbuilders, ship repairers, shipbrokers, charterers, Flag Administrations, insurers and the financial community.
In carrying out Customs Classification Code Services (CCCS) of goods on behalf of exporting/importing entities, Bureau Veritas helps international trade operators to comply fully with the importing countries Harmonized System (HS). This improves their business efficiency and reduces risk wherever possible. The service also provides clients with the peace of mind they require.
"This ship is something special," says Jean-Jacques Juenet, Bureau Veritas product manager for passenger ships. With a highly collaborative approach, Bureau Veritas accompanied the teams at STX Europe & MSC Cruises throughout the design and construction stages, ensuring that all existing safety and environmental standards were met or even exceeded.
