The Mexican General Directorate of Standards has announced that Mexican Standard NMX-A-3758-INNTEX-2014 TEXTILES-CODE OF GENERATION OF CARE LABELS THE USE OF SYMBOLS must now be used instead NMX-A-240-INNTEX-2009.

This Mexican Standard provides a care symbol system that is to be used for labeling of textile articles.  The care symbols are to provide information on the most severe care method that does not adversely affect the article during the care process.

This Mexican Standard is applicable to all textile articles sold in Mexico, when sold to consumers.  It is important to note that NMX-A-3758-INNTEX-2014 is identical to the International Standard ISO 3758: 2012 Textiles - Care labeling code using symbols.

Effective Date:

The Mexican General Directorate of Standards, Mexican Standard NMX-A-3758-INNTEX-2014 became effective October 16, 2017.  However, the amendment to the NOM-004-SCFI-2006 (the law that requires care labeling and specifies the NMX to be followed), has not been revised to eliminate NMX-A-240-INNTEX-2009 and replace with NMX-A-3758-INNTEX-2014, to date.

Recommended Action:

Retailers and brands who sell their textile products in Mexico need to ensure their labels comply with the above.
