August 10 , 2016, Littleton, MA: Curtis-Straus, LLC, a Bureau Veritas Company, is pleased to announce it has recently been approved as a EU Notified Body for the new EMC (2014/30/EU) and RED (2014/53/EU) Directives, by the European Commission.
The new Directives provide a different method for conformity assessment than was previously performed by Notified Bodies. Where the old Directives prescribed Notified Body "Opinions," the new Directives provide for "EU-Type Examination Certificates."
The new EMC Directive is now in force for any new products to be placed on the market, and the RED Directive is also now applicable in parallel with the old R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EU) until June 13, 2017, after which R&TTE will no longer be valid.
As a Notified Body for the two new Directives, Curtis-Straus LLC can now provide EU-Type Examination Certificate conformity assessment which includes
• Expert review of all relevant Technical Documentation, providing manufacturers confidence in their compliance files, including those situations in which utilization of a Notified Body is required by a Directive.
• Certification provides for listing of products on the Curtis-Straus online Certification Database, which is externally verifiable by any interested party.
• Notified Bodies are required to monitor the state-of-the-art with regard to standard publication and harmonization, which helps manufacturers to stay current in their compliance obligations.
• For products which do not fall under the scope of a harmonized standard, the Notified Body can identify tests which would be sufficient to prove compliance with the essential requirements of the Directives.
As a Notified Body, Curtis-Straus has been recognized as a conformity assessment body, approved by the European Commission (EC) to serve under specific EC Directives in accordance with the Mutual Recognition Agreement between the United States and the European Community (U.S.-EU/EFTA Telecom MRAs).
