What's the difference between mechanical testing and climatic testing?
Mechanical testing focuses on the mechanical force inputs to a piece of equipment simulating the effects of everyday wear and tear or operation as well as stresses induced by a crash or shipping shocks and bumps for example. Climatic testing simulates natural environments, sometimes together with motion to better replicate real life. Examples include ice, water, sand & dust, temperature, altitude, humidity, salt fog, etc…
What is temperature or thermal testing?
A test in which the air surrounding the equipment under test is raised and/or lowered to pre-determined levels to identify the effect of the temperature extremes on the equipment, which may be operating or non-operating. Temperature extremes and rapid temperature transitions are also used to purposely induce failures to determine weak points or latent defects.
