Bureau Veritas UK is Approved as a Notified Body for Toys under the New Toy Safety Directive

Warrington, UK, 13th October 2011: Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services UK, located in Warrington, Cheshire, is pleased to announce that it has been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and approved by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) as a Notified Body for Toys under the new Toy Safety Directive. This approval enables Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services UK t carry out EC-type examinations and issue EC-type examination certificates under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC which has been in force since July 2011.

There are four instances when toys may only be placed on the market if an EC-type examination certificate has been issued:
  • When harmonised standards covering all safety requirements do not exist
  • When harmonised standards exist but the manufacturer has used them only in part
  • When harmonised standards exist but have been published with a restriction
  • When the manufacturer considers that the nature, design, construction or purpose of the toy necessitate third party verification
