New California Proposition 65 Settlements

There have been a number of recently finalized California Proposition 65 settlements involving bath mats, folding chairs, bean bag chairs, cookware with brass handles, and reusable shopping bags. Each of these settlements establishes requirements that the defendants have agreed to meet.

Reusable Shopping Bags

Requirements

No more than 90 ppm total lead for surface coatings

No more than 200 ppm total lead for PVC materials

No more than 300 ppm total lead for all other materials

No warning labels allowed. Reformulation required

Bath Mats

Requirements

No more than 1000 ppm total DEHP and total DBP, each

No warning labels allowed. Reformulation required.

Folding Chairs

Requirements

No more than 100 ppm total lead, or

Provide specified warning label

Bean Bag Chairs

Requirements

No more than 100 ppm total lead

No warning labels allowed. Reformulation required.

Cookware with Brass Handles

Requirements

No more than 300 ppm total lead in brass handles

No warning labels allowed. Reformulation required.
