Rhode Island Makes New ASTM Children’s Jewelry Standard Law



Rhode Island is the first state to enact a law requiring that children’s jewelry meet the requirements of ASTM F2923-11, a recently established children’s jewelry standard. The standard has a number of mechanical and analytical requirements, including restrictions on the amount of lead, cadmium, and other heavy metals.

The Law states that all jewelry for children 12 years old and younger manufactured on or after December 18, 2012 must meet the requirements of ASTM F2923-11.
