US Consumer Product Safety Commission makes mandatory ASTM F963-11

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (‘‘CPSC,’’ Commission,’’ or ‘‘we’’) is announcing that we have accepted the revised ASTM F963–11 standard titled, Standard Consumer Safety Specifications for Toy Safety. Pursuant to section 106 of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, ASTM F963–11 will become a mandatory consumer product safety standard effective June 12, 2012.

Iowa (US) proposes legislation prohibiting BPA from food containers, wraps, or bags

This bill would prohibit the manufacture and sale of a consumer product containing the organic compound bisphenol A. Specifically, the prohibition would apply to manufacturers in this state who manufacture food containers (e.g., water bottles) and food wraps or bags (plastic wraps and freezer bags).
