Bureau Veritas publishes Marine Business Review

03/11/10

Every year Bureau Veritas publishes a Marine Business Review, that presents the Bureau Veritas Marine business and the people behind it all.

"The purpose of the Marine Business Review is to provide an annual inventory of the main events that have affected the business over the past year, such as ship deliveries and new orders. It’s like an annual report for the marine business," says Philippe Boisson, marine communication director.

The marine story
Through commentary from Bureau Veritas experts, client case studies and specific examples,  the latest review focuses on Bureau Veritas performance in 2009, and gives projections for 2010. Bernard Anne, executive vice president and managing director, Bureau Veritas Marine, begins the review by summarizing industry trends and developments.

Highlights of the past year are then described by Pierre de Livois, senior vice president and technical director. Then, Bruno Dabouis, director, sales and marketing, talks about how the industry has progressed from the viewpoint of ship owners and yards.

The next section focuses on the Bureau Veritas global network.
Then, Claude Maillot, Director, ships in service, discusses the in-service fleet and gives key facts and figures including how Bureau Veritas is helping ship operators to prepare for different changes in legislation. Pierre Besse, Director, research department, explains how sustainability and reliability are  priorities and describes how Bureau Veritas meets these twin challenges.

The business of people
Next follows a chapter for each type of vessel that Bureau Veritas works with. These include offshore facilities, bulk carriers, oil and chemical carriers, gas carriers, containerships, passenger ships, offshore support vessels and tugs, dredgers, warships and yachts. Each section headlines with a client case study. Sections on consultancy and outsourcing, and the inland waterways fleet, complete the review.

Philippe Boisson explains: "This enables us to show clients the wide range of marine services we offer. And to demonstrate business development including R&D projects to improve the Bureau Veritas classed fleet."

The review gives a clear picture of the challenges facing the shipping industry and the solutions that Bureau Veritas provides. It’s essential reading for anyone involved in shipping and the beautiful photography gives an inspiring glimpse into the marine world.

The facts speak for themselves, but it’s the opinions of both clients and colleagues that really bring the marine story to life.
