EFISC Certification Scheme
The solution for quality feed materials.
Business Challenge
Feed safety and quality are key issues for all companies handling feedstuffs and can have serious consequences when control is lost. A systematic approach is imperative for reducing risk and improving quality. Several private standards are currently used in the feed industry, some of which present considerable problems to certification candidates due to rigid certification schemes.
The branch codes developed according to European Food Legislation 178/2002 have extended into certification schemes and address specific areas of the food chain. The branch organization for the starch, oilseed crushing, oil refining and protein meal industries have developed EFISC (European Feed Ingredients Safety Certification), which details how a company can show compliance with European legislation.
Solution
The EFISC standard has been developed to harmonize requirements for feed material in order to ensure quality and safety. It is based on widely recognized principles of quality assurance, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and EU legislation.
The standard is only applicable for feed material producers in sectors concerning starch, oilseed
crushing, oil refining and protein meal, but an extension into other sectors is planned.
An EFISC certification can be viewed online in the database for certified companies on www.EFISC.eu.
