By utilizing Direct Data Entry Interface or DDEI, Bureau Veritas can internally streamline the inspection report process, enable easy validation, tracking of report status at all stages as well as generate faster report release to the factory or vendor. Additionally, DDEI enables business intelligence reports for the brands and retailers via Bureau Veritas’ OneSource. This is an added value to the brands and retailers for effective supply chain management.
Q: How does DDEI work for an inspection activity?
A: The Direct Data Entry Interface is a web based application developed to facilitate efficient completion of an inspection report online. It captures the whole report process online – submit, review, approve and release in a web platform. DDEI facilitates efficient submission via internet directly at the inspection site. Then, the operation team reviews and validates the draft report along with all the necessary supporting documents and digital photos taken during the inspection, and approve the submission online in one go.

A: The user group is within Bureau Veritas’ Inspection, Audits and Assessments team, primarily the Operation team, as well as the Clients, Factories, and Vendors who place an inspection order. They are categorized as:
• “Submitter” of the report – Inspector, Operation Team
• “Reviewer” of the submitted report – Report Reviewer, Operation Team
• “Approver” of the report – Manager, Operation Team
• “Receiver” of the report – Factories, Vendors and Clients

A: Currently, Bureau Veritas has more than 1,400 clients using DDEI system for inspections. As Bureau Veritas continues to enhance the system with more features and clients see the added value and benefits it brings to them, additional client enrollments are expected.

A: From application development perspective, Bureau Veritas has a strong team of experienced application developers dedicated to further enhancements of DDEI. For continuous improvements of DDEI, recommendations are taken from users regularly. These suggestions are validated by a group of super users who are regional specialists from business operations. Post validation, enhancement requirements are then submitted to I.T. teams for development.
