As part of the routine systematic review process, the FTC is reviewing Guides for Select Leather and Imitation Leather Products (Leather Guides). This announcement requests comments from the public in regards to whether they should repeal, amend or keep the Guides for Select Leather and Imitation Leather Products (Leather Guides).
The Leather Guides were written to address “Truth in Labeling” for specific products made of leather or imitation leather products, such as purses, luggage, wallets, footwear, and other items. The Guides state that “marketers selling imitation leather products should disclose that the products are not genuine leather.”
This request seeks comments from the Industry to address the following:
1) If unfair practices such as false or deceptive labeling are still found?
2) Is there a need still for these guides?
3) Should these guides cover products outside the current scope? Should they also cover automotive or upholstery products?
Please submit comments to the FTC: www.ftc.gov/policy/public-comments
Comments must be received within 60 days from the date of the announcement (February 6, 2019).
