China Mobile approves 7layers’ Interlab® Test Solution DEVICE/UICC as the First Platform for NB-IoT Conformance Tests

21/08/18

21 August, 2018 – Bureau Veritas is pleased that 7layers, a Bureau Veritas Company, has been listed by China Mobile as their certified technical partner for NB-IoT SIM/SAT conformity test solutions. 7layers’ Interlab® Test Solution DEVICE/UICC is now designated by China Mobile as the first reference test platform for NB-IoT SIM tests.

China Mobile, the world's leading telecommunications operator and one of the largest and fast-growing LTE network operators in Asia, announced a detailed acceptance and certification program for NB-IoT devices that the certification program includes test requirements for SIM interface.

NB-IoT (Narrowband-Internet of Things) is a narrow band radio technology standard that focuses specifically on indoor coverage, low cost, long battery life, and enabling a large number of connected device using cellular telecommunications bands.

Bureau Veritas’ 7layers provides Interlab Test Solution DEVICE/UICC, a ready-to-use test solution for NB-IoT and LTE CAT-M1 in combination with USIM/USAT applications. The Interlab Test Solution DEVICE/UICC handles highly complex test set-ups and verifies terminal/UICC interface and NFC conformance requirements. These are geared to ensure interoperability between a cellular network, a wireless device and its UICC, independency of the device manufacturer, card issuer or network operator.

The UICC and its (U)SIM/(U)SAT/ISIM applications play a central role in data security and other added services, covering tasks such as authentication handling, mobility management, call control handling, closed subscriber group handling, short messages services etc. By jointly controlling an integrated UICC/SIM simulator and a network emulator, the cost-efficient Interlab Test Solution DEVICE/UICC verifies wireless device software implementations, necessary to support (U)SIM, (U)SAT, ISIM and NFC applications.

“We are very pleased with the approval of China Mobile and that through the validation, we were able to support China Mobile to start their Certification Acceptance Program for NB IoT/USIM", 7layers’ Interlab Product Manager, Magdy Ahmed explains.

Furthermore, not only large telecommunications service providers including China Mobile require NB-IoT testing and certification, but also the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB commit chipset and module manufacturers and device manufacturers to this verification of manufacturer and network operator independent interface conformity.

As an active member of 3GPP, PTCRB, and GCF Working Groups, 7layers has actively helped develop the introduction of the new work items for NB-IoT and LTE CAT-M1 conformity tests and certification.
