Shanghai, China, 24 April, 2018 – Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services has continued the expansion of its Shanghai Hub with the addition of asbestos testing for automotive OEMs and suppliers in China.
Asbestos has been used in many automotive products such as brake pads, exhaust pipes, head gaskets and sound / thermal insulation materials due to its unique properties of sound absorption, tensile strength as well as resistance to fire, heat and electricity. However, inhalation of asbestos fibers by people can cause serious illnesses such as lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis (a type of pneumoconiosis). Understandably, major automotive markets such as China, USA, Japan, and Europe have stringent regulations on the use of asbestos in the automotive sector with an increasing number of OEMs looking to eradicate it within their vehicles.
Bureau Veritas is now capable of performing tests for the determination of asbestos in products against US, Japan and China standards as well as a variety of OEM standards, some of which are detailed underneath.
• GB/T23263-2009 of China
• NIOSH_9000 Ray Diffraction Method
• Niosh_7402 Transmission Electron Microscopy Method
• JIS A1481
• EPA/600/R-93/116 Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Bulk
• X-ray Diffraction and Phase Contrast Microscopy (2008)
• ISO 14966:2002 Scanning Electron Microscopy
• ISO/DIS 22262-1 Air quality - Bulk Materials - part 1
Henri He, China Automotive SBU Director, Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services says, “As an automotive supply chain quality partner, we have been partnering global OEMs and Tier 1 and Tier 2 clients in the automotive industry for over 10 years in China.
